Alexis
de Tocqueville Members
We
invite you to join other prominent leaders in the Dutchess County community
to become a member of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society.
The
Alexis de Tocqueville Society is the foundation of leadership giving
in Dutchess County. The Dutchess County chapter is one of 276 Alexis
de Tocqueville societies in the United States. The Society takes its
name from Alexis de Tocqueville, a Frenchman who drew inspiration from
the spirit of philanthropy he encountered in his American travels in
the early 1800s.
De
Tocqueville wrote extensively on the power of voluntary giving for the
common good. Since 1984, the United Way of Dutchess County Alexis de
Tocqueville Society has recognized the deep commitment to service of
outstanding community leaders who make an annual contribution of $10,000
or more.
Your
participation in the Alexis de Tocqueville Society is an invaluable
investment in the future of Dutchess County. As a leader in our community,
your generosity will encourage others to give, and most importantly,
will positively change lives in Dutchess County.

The
greatest benefit of Alexis de Tocqueville membership is what your contribution
can do for others. The most pressing needs in the County are addressed
through the United Way Community Fund. Your contribution will fund programs
that impact the following four strategic funding priorities, identified
by volunteers of our community:
- Providing Basic
Needs
- Promoting Financial
Stability
- Preparing Young
Children for Success
The
Community Fund provides the greatest good to the largest number of people
right here in Dutchess County. As a contributor to the Alexis de Tocqueville
Society, you have a number of designation options available to you on
the United Way Pledge Card. You may donate 100% of your contribution
to the Community Fund, thereby addressing the most critical health and
human service needs in the county. You may also target your contribution
to any of the four funding priorities within the Community Fund. Finally,
through the Donor Choice Program, you may designate portions of your
contribution to specific non-profit organizations, whether located in
Dutchess County or elsewhere in the United States. United Way of Dutchess
County encourages you to consider first and foremost the health and
human service needs of Dutchess County.
